About the Author

Hello friends! My name is Brittany. I am a wife and a mother to a very special 3-year-old named Mark. I am 28 years old and live in a (fast-growing) “small” town in Florida. In 2018, I had a very difficult pregnancy which led to my son, Mark, coming into this world at 27 weeks and 4 days. He weighed 1 Pound 7 Ounces and was just over 12 inches long.

Prior to becoming a stay at home mom, I attended the University of North Florida where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Public Health and Health Education. Upon graduation, I worked at a local homeless shelter and medical clinic, providing healthcare and resources to an underserved population.

In 2018, after a lengthy NICU stay, I became a stay-at-home mom. I put my career aside so that I would be able to take Mark to his therapy appointments, specialists’ appointments, and regular follow-ups. I wanted to be involved in his care as much as possible and felt it was one way to ensure Mark was reaching his fullest potential.

As a stay-at-home mom, I feel like I don’t get very much free time, honestly (despite other beliefs). But on the rare occasion, I do have free time, you can find me reading a good book, completing a few DIY projects, going out on the boat, spending any amount of time outside really, writing, and giving back to the local NICU.

After I experienced my son’s stay in the NICU, I became an advocate for NICU support and research. I hope this blog becomes a resource for other parents who are navigating life with their child(ren). Mark is considered to be “medically complex” and there are a great many physical struggles and social dilemmas that we encounter daily that some people may not completely realize. This is another reason I started this page.

In the future, I hope to earn a master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Program Planning and Evaluation. Completing my goal of a Master’s degree will allow me to achieve my dream of building a Non-Profit, called Mark’s Mission to give back to local NICUs.

Thank you for taking a moment and getting to know me. I hope you enjoy the blog.
